Connecting climate science researchers, users, and stakeholders
Although my research emphasizes the physical aspects of the climate system and
its variability, I am intrigued by the broader societal implications of the
phenomena I study. For example, I have a burgeoning interest in the
interplay of climate variability and water availability in the western United
States and the complex intersections of the socioeconomic, political, historic,
archaeological, demographic, and even psychological dimensions involved.
Given the projected impacts of future global climate change on this region—coupled with expanding population and urbanization, evolving economic markets
on regional, national, and global scales, and often competing agricultural,
industrial, environmental, and demographic interests—an understanding of the
multifaceted climate-hydrologic cycle-human dynamic is crucial. Such
understanding ultimately requires communication across disciplinary
boundaries.
The purpose of this website is to facilitate climate science-related
cross-disciplinary dialogue by providing a forum for linking
researchers, users, and stakeholders and their interests. If you would wish
to participate, please email me (ben[ @ ]atmos[ . ]ucla[ . ]edu) your contact information and a brief description of your interests. Suggestions
for the improvement of this website are welcome.
