As with other plots of zonal means, colors show the configuration (grey=CESS, blue=AQUA, green=QOBS, red=FLAT) and solid curves are the APE SSTs (or control) and the dashed are SST+2.
Here are the surface budget terms, one by one. Note that when thinking of it as a surface budget, the sign conventions used here would make it 0 = SW+LW-SH-LH.

Another intersting quantity to look at is the surface cloud forcing. This is just the difference between the incoming radiation with and without clouds. I made the sign convention such that positive forcing is a warming effect and negative is a cooling effect.

Turning away from the surface, we can also look at the greenhouse forcing. By looking at the clear-sky greenhouse forcing, it can give a sense for the contribution by water vapor to the total climate response.
