RHI cross section through an outflow at 2116:27 UTC 7 May 1995. Radar reflectivity and Doppler velocity are shown on the top and bottom of the figure, respectively. The white arrows denote the location of two rotational couplets which may be Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. Range rings and azimuths are every 10 km and 30 degrees, respectively. Schematic diagrams of the flow patterns including the Kelvin-Helmholtz circulations is shown in the middle of the figure. Dashed line marks the kinematic boundary between the two air masses.
The reflectivity plot indicates heavy rain reaching the surface with reflectivity > 50 dBz. The approximate depth of the cold air outflow is shown in velocity profile and the dashed line in the schematic diagram. Two small rotational couplets are 1.5-2.0 Km in diameter and separated by ~3.5 Km.
