Have you ever seen this special painted locomotive? It is Union Pacific
1996 Olympic Torch Relay engine. This one was renamed #1896 at that time.
The other is #1996. both of them is UP SD40-2s. Now, they repainted to UP
Armour Yellow again. I took this photo in 8/1996 at UP Los Angeles Yard.

Union Pacific is the biggest railroad company in America at the
present time.
It took over Chicago & North Western in 1995, and Southern Pacific
in 1996. UP preserved many historical trains and created one of the best
railroad homepages in the world. Thanks (?) for UP took over those
railroad companies.
However,I quess many people already heard about Union Pacific RR has big
trouble these days. UP is the biggest railroad company in America now,
but they seem can not handle this huge kingdom. We always can see the
slogan, WE WILL DELIVER! , on Union Pacific locomotives. Now, the slogan
maybe need to change to "We will deliver? --- When?"
My friend Dan tell me another joke about Union Pacific. The UP slogan
should become :" Houston, we have problem !!", because Houston is a city
in Texas. It is the home of Mission Control for NASA
(the US space program). In the movie Apollo 13, the spacecraft was in
trouble and an astranaut on board said "Houston, we have a problem." In
UP's case, all of their conjestion is centered in Texas (this conjestion
actually dates back to the days of the SP and UP inherited it with the
merger). So someone, as a joke, said UP's new slogan should be, "Houston,
we have a problem!"
The TRAINS magazine said: UP is the biggest railroad company in
America. UP has big problem -> American railroad has problem ,too.
An ex-CNW locomotive (SD40-2, EMD) wear a new Union Pacific Dresses in Ames
, Iowa. You still can see C&NW special bell on its nose. C&NW won't die!

Can UP preserve C&NW and SP Historical Trains?
These days, many Southern Pacific fans said there cute red nose
engines will become UP Yellow very quickly. More C&NW fans said their yellow
and green trains will drop into UP yellow sea. Union Pacific preserved many
historical trains, but just only UP trains. They didn't think about the
treasure of Chicago & North Wester, Southern Pacific, Rio Grande .....
UP had SP business cars and C&NW F-units after they owned these two
companies, but UP seems don't want them. You can buy them if you want.
Any way, UP is the biggest Railroad company in America. It is too easy
to catch their fleets. Wish you enjoy my UP photos.
