Movies
The following two movies illustrate our new numerical method
for modelling the subgrid scales (that is such small scales which a
computer fails to resolve). The method computes the two-dimmensional
Navier-Stokes equation which approximates large-scale vortex
motions in oceans and atmospheres. Novelty of our approach
is that the small-scale motions are
computed dynamically and not postulated as in traditional subgrid models.
In these movies, the resolved (large-scale) vorticity is shown in
the lower plane and the wavepackets of the subgrid (small-scale)
vorticity are shown on the top plane.
