Dr Shprits' primarily area of scientific research is understanding the dynamics of the radiation belts. Dr Shprits has developed codes to quantify the dynamical evolution of the radiation belts. He has also developed codes to quantify quasi-liner scattering rates due to wave-particle interactions. He has quantified the effects of scattering by ELF/ VLF and ULF waves and identified a number of critical effects associated with radial diffusion, local acceleration and loss of the radiation belt electrons.. His bibliography includes 2 publications in the nature publishing group journals, 2 invited by editors review articles and 2 Monographs. During the last 3 years Dr. Shprits gave 8 invited seminars, and gave 6 solicited presentations at the international meetings. He is actively involved in advising graduate students: Dmitri Subbotin, Wen Li, and Lunjin Chen, and a postdoctoral scholar Binbin Ni, who have conducted their research based on the computer codes developed by Dr. Shprits. Dr Shprits has recently served as a Main Scientific Organizer of the ST 13 session at the European Geophysical Union Assembly in Vienna, Austria; Deputy Scientific Organizer of the PRBEM1 session at the Committee on Space Research Assembly in Montreal, Canada; and is organizer of the international IMC workshop in Espo, Finland and RBSPB workshop in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is a member of the American Geophysical Union and the European Geophysical Union.
